| Are your store computers connected to the Internet?
Do you surf the internet very often?
If your computer appears to have some quirks these days, like crashing, running more slowly or being low on memory, it may be you have spyware on it.
what is spyware? What does it do? What should I do about it?
Spyware is a hidden computer software program used to secretly gather and transmit information about the user. It’s normally not detected by anti- virus software and presents a privacy and security risk to unprotected users.
How does it get on my computer?
There are many ways spyware gets onto your computer. Most of them are through common tasks you may perform daily. Some are as simple as surfing the Web, downloading freeware, shareware, opening e-mail attachments, file sharing, or letting someone else use your computer.
What can you do?
Carefully consider whether software is coming from a reputable company or site. If you are at all uncertain of the software’s integrity, do not download it.
Be wary of pier-to-pier sites that offer shared music and software - spyware is often a part of the software download.
Ensure you have anti-virus protection and a firewall. (posted - 05.October.2004.10.36.am)
