| Rapid Rental Forum >> General Discussion >> 7 Day Rentals Showing as 1 Day (Again) | |
| Hi all,
This is a repost but wasn't sure if anyone would catch me adding to an old post:
Hi all, It seems that this error is re-occurring... and the c577 fix doesn't seem to work anymore. Here are some updated bits of info: This error has been observed to occur when: If a customer is owing any late fees and they go to rent a 7 day rental it will show up on screen as being a 7 day rental... when you then go to check the late list that customer who just rented a 7 day will show up as having to return that movie tomorrow (i.e., it became a 1 day rental). Any thoughts? All input greatly appreciated as I am simply not familiar enough with this software... Thanks! --Matthew (posted - 26.February.2009.12.45.pm)

| Hello Matthew, I have heard of this before but have yet to be able to replicate it. I just tried to rent a 7 day rental to a customer with lates and set date to the next day and ran the late list and its not coming up - are they making a partial late charge payment in that transaction or just the presence of a late fee is enough for that? Also are they pricing on Category or Type?
Thanks, | |
| Thank you for the response Steve!
>> are they making a partial late charge payment in that transaction or just the presence of a late fee is enough for that? If a person does NOT make a payment then it stays as a 7 day rental. However, if a person DOES pay for their late fee then it becomes a 1 day rental. >>Also are they pricing on Category or Type? Category. Thank you once again for any help! --Matthew (posted - 07.March.2009.12.58.pm) -- | |
| Hello Matthew, I am trying to re-create the problem but can't as yet. Here are the scenarios I have tried: I have set the pricing to Category, set a price code up for the category to rent the title for 7 days. I have called up a customer with a late fee, keyed in the movie for rent, then hit F9 to bring down the charge into the transaction window, then modified the amount to less then the full late amount, then finished the transaction. I then set my date forward and verified my cutoff time is set to a time that will make the title late by 1 day. It doesn't come up on the 2-2-4 late list report, nor the 2-8-3 report. I did the same transaction but this time putting the Late payment F9 first, then the rental - still no joy in recreating. Then I did a payment on the account using A, Pay Late Charge, put in a partial amount, finished it, then did a rental in a separate transaction and this didn't create the same problem either. I then did the rental first, then the A payment after, and still no luck recreating. So, this leads me to ask the question : What is there cut off time set to ? C-C-G What revision of the program are they on C-6 (Program Version section - the build # and the date under the word Apex Build. The other possibility is that something is wonky with there parms.dat and parms2.dat settings files. To check into this, copy only the video.exe and rtm.exe files into a separate test directory, then run the video.exe file - it will ask to create a new parms.dat file, say yes. You will need to do a quick setup like this:
From Main Menu:
Ok, now that pricing is ready to go , add a test customer:
press 5 from Main Menu, give the customer a name and phone # and press F2 to save (note its customer # as you will key that in to rent to them).
Now add a test movie by pressing 4, 1 - add a name and set the category to the 7 day one you added. Note the Movie # at the top as you will call it up by that. F2 to save, do this again for a second title., F2 to save it.
Ok, press 1 from Main Menu to go into Rent/Return screen, press 1 to call up the Customer 1, key in 1 to call up 1st movie you added - it should show as 7 day, hit space bar, enter, enter enter to finalize. If it didn't you may need to add a cash payment type (C-D-4- insert, Code=C, Name=cash, payment type status=Cash. F2 to save. Go back and try again.
Now you need to make this movie late, go into the 3 choice (change movies) call up movie 1, arrow down to Due Date, set that 15 days previous or so, F2 to save it, go back to Main Menu, 1 for rent/return screen, press F5 for Movie #, key in 1, enter to accept the late fees.
Now press L to get the customer back on screen, note the late fees, F9 to bring them down, left arrow in and modify the amount to pay, press Esc key, then key in movie 2, then finish the transaction with space, enter, enter.
Ok, now you can exit to dos, change the computer date and time to 1 day ahead and 1 hour past cutoff time, then open the test install of Rapid Rental up, and run the 2-2-4 (late list) Enter, Enter, Enter... Is there anything in the list? If not I suspect there settings files are correct and the only way to resolve that is to have 2 instances of the program open and walk through all the C-C and C-D menus and mimic all the values, then rename the current ones to parms.xzy and parms2.xyz then drop the clean ones in. Sorry for the info overload - let me know how things are going
Thanks in advance, | |
| Hi Steve, Thank you for the terrific advice. I chugged through it today and here are the results. Rapid Rental 46 NK RTK NL 21-JUL-06 20090701 >>Is there anything in the list? No, there were no late charges. So we should copy all of the values in our broken RR C-C and C-D menus over to the new clean version? I think we are completely prepared to do that so long as we don't lose and customer or movie information. Thanks so much for all of your help. Matthew (posted - 17.March.2009.7.08.pm) -- | |
| Hi Matthew, If you keep both instances the existing one, and the new testing one open side by side in small windows, you should be able to go through the C-C, and C-D and replicate it. Then, exit the existing corrupt settings instance and rename parms.dat and parms2.dat to something else, then copy the clean files you just built into C:\VIDEO. Run the program and have them try stuff to make sure all is in order. Hopefully the corruption was only in those parms files - that would make life easier. If it's in other files as well, then we can cross that bridge by selectively copying other files in.

| Just want to clear something up - just copy the clean parms.dat and parms2.dat files into C:\VIDEO for now. Let me know how it goes. (posted - 18.March.2009.12.09.pm) -- | |
